The carseat manufacturer Britax is recalling over 14,000 of its "Chaperone" carseats due to a defect with the safety harness that may not properly restrain a child in the event of a motor vehicle collision. While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is unaware of any injuries due to the defects in these seats manufactured from September 2010 to April 2011, owners of these seats should contact Britax at 1(888) 427-4829 or at www.britaxusa.com.
Britax will be giving consumers and retailers a remedy kit to ensure the harness adjuster is securely attached by February 6, 2012, and will continue to replace seats with detached harness adjusters until that date.
For more information including model numbers of the affected seats, visit the NHTSA website and read their press release concerning this recall here.
