We Remember: The Imagined Child

On Saturday, Oct , 2015, in Troy NY, there will be a special, sacred service, We Remember: An Interfaith Memorial Service Honoring Perinatal Loss.

We will gather together, listen to songs and prayers, light candles.  As a community, we will remember the imagined children that we loved once and always.

I hope that you can join us.

May all babies be born into loving hands...

"How can we love a child never conceived, never held, never grown? I don't know. And yet I know that we do. We love these babies with all our hearts. They stretch our hearts to the breaking point and then pull those broken edges inward."READ MORE

Announcement: K. Michelle Doyle Granted Admitting Privileges at Bellevue Hospital

Local Care Midwifery, PLLC (LCM) is pleased to announce that K. Michelle Doyle, CNM, NYS LM now has admitting privileges at Bellevue Women's Hospital in Niskayuna, NY.

LCM opened in August of 2009, specializing in personalized Well Women Care and Planned Home Birth Services. We continue to do just that. Now, six years later, in September 2015, we also offer midwifery services for women needing, or desiring hospital care. With Michelle now having privileges, LCM clients are able to have Michelle as a provider if they are admitted to Bellevue.

Planned home birth is just that, planned: not all planned home births occur at home. With LCM's care, about 94% of women that start labor planning a home birth actually birth at home. That also means that about 6% transfer from home to a hospital for the birth of their child. Most transfers from planned home birth to hospital birth are not emergent, but due to need for pain relief not available at home, or lack of timely progress in labor. Going forward, the few LCM clients that do transfer in labor, may opt to go to Bellevue and have Michelle as their admitting provider. Some women that plan to birth at home have their plans change prior to active labor. For example, if a women goes into labor at 35 weeks, a home birth is contraindicated. Having privileges at Bellevue, a Level Two Perinatal Center, K. Michelle Doyle, CNM, NYS LM, could attend the birth, and the baby would also have immediate access to a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) if needed.

With Michelle being granted admitting privileges at Bellevue, LCM can now offer Planned Hospital Birth services. Some clients will utilize this option because of personal preferences, some because of specific medical or social conditions. Planned home birth is know to be safest when the client is at term, generally healthy, and pregnant with one baby in a head down position: not all women fit this template. With admitting privileges at Bellevue, LCM can expand the services we offer.

Join us in congratulating Michelle on continuing and expanding midwifery care options for women of the Capital District. If possible, join us in person on Sunday, October 4 from 12-5, for LCM's sixth annual Autumn Open House, 35 Dearstyne Road, Troy, NY.
